GoNegosyo sa Bulacan!

Yes, you heard it right, GoNegosyo will come to Bulacan this coming Friday, October 3 at CEU Centrodome.

As I read, Philippine Star, GoNegosyo Team has an article entitled "Bulacan Takes Pride in Negosyo" they featured Milko Ice Cream so here's a full article courtesy of Philippine Star.

"The Milko Ice Cream legacy began with a humble sorbetero’s need to provide for his nine children.
Jose “Mang Ute” Hernandez Sr. started as your friendly neighborhood ice cream vendor in the locality of Sumapa, Malolos, Bulacan. Mang Ute only finished grade three. He had no grand ambition but to provide enough food and the proper education for his children.
With hard work, Mang Ute decided to put up his own ice cream business, Republic Ice Drop. Through this simple enterprise, Mang Ute fed and educated nine children.
In 1972, Mang Ute passed away, leaving the business to his children. His son, Jose “Jun” Hernandez Jr., saw the need to upgrade their product and introduced the very popular ice cream on sticks that carried the brand name Hern’s, in honor of their father.
Jun recalls the days when he would go to the local market in Malolos to buy small quantities of the ingredients to make a batch of ice drop. He made the ice drops and delivered them to his retailers all by himself. Sometimes he even went as far as peddling his products on the streets. Eventually, people came to know of his products and neighborhood stores started selling them. Hern’s Ice Cream Stick also became a hit in local schools, since the products were affordable for students. Their bestselling flavors include buko salad, ube, quezo and monggo, all at very popular affordable prices.
After some time, Jun felt the competition from other local producers. He figured that the others were on to his “ice cream on stick” idea and were imitating his products. He knew that he needed to do more.
After a visit to ice cream-making facilities in Bangkok and Australia, Jun was inspired to make a new line of products. But since he could not afford any of the equipment he saw, he had to improvise. He bought second-hand ice cream machines and restored them. He also developed his own techniques.
All these led to the birth of the Milko Ice Cream Brand in 1995. Among its products are the Milko Creamstick, Crunchies and Buko Salad. Jun expanded his distribution from Bulacan to Pampanga, NCR and Laguna.
In 1998, Jun started Milko Soft Serve. He had the opportunity to get spaces in different malls in Laguna, Manila, Pangasinan and Pampanga. His product was simple: ice cream served straight from the machine, topped with chocolate or strawberry syrup, similar to those served by more popular multi-national food chains in taste and quality. The main difference is that Milko Soft Serve was sold at only five pesos per cone.
In 2006, this time with the capital to match his drive, Jun built Snow Joe Ice Cream Factory in Calumpit, Bulacan. To him this was the fulfillment of a long-time dream, and the beginning of even better ones. The factory has all the state-of-the-art equipment for making ice cream.
Jun’s goal is to make affordable ice cream products easily available to the Filipino; high quality products that come from natural ingredients, taking local raw material and making them into globally-competitive products. He wants to improve the quality of life of all people involved in the business, whether employees, dealers, retailers, or customers. He envisions a business where people, not profits, come first.
Despite the unstable economy and countless problems of our country, the vision of success and his father’s unforgotten ideals are what drive Jun to strive harder.

Your skincare authority

In 1985, Dr. Isabel Lopez-Nazal, a dermatologist, discovered a need for quality dermatological services in Metro Manila.
After consulting with her husband, Isabel converted the garage of her home into a small skin care clinic, naming it Clinica Dermatologica. While running the clinic, Isabel also formulated and sold products to her clients.
Over time, Clinica Dermatologica’s clients began to experience the products’ wonderful effects. After undergoing a few procedures, most were able to maintain positive results with the continued use of Isabel’s products. Clients end up recommending her products to relatives and friends.
To meet the increasing product demand, Isabel and her husband put up a laboratory at the back of their house in 1989. Soon, Marosa Soap and Cosmetics Laboratories, Inc. began producing beauty soaps on a large scale. With its entry into the mass market, the YSA Botanica line of beauty products was born.
Three years later, several more branches of Clinica Dermatologica opened and the chain became known as YSA Skin Care Center, the sister company of Marosa. It expanded its treatments to include the latest procedures in cosmetic technology, such as rejuvenation treatments, aesthetic surgery and mesotherapy. The skin care center currently operates 16 branches in the Philippines, all of which carry the YSA Botanica product line.
Isabel expanded YSA Botanica to include various kinds of soaps, facial cleansers, and face and body whitening lotions. Through the efforts of NSA Exchange Corp., YSA Botanica’s national distributor, with the help of Isabel’s son Roberto Jr., her products are distributed to more than 17,000 supermarkets, hyper-marts, department stores, groceries, drugstores, convenience stores and sari-sari stores nationwide.
Indeed, Isabel’s commitment to her brand values and to excellence and quality shows through hard work in putting up the Marosa Soap and Cosmetic Laboratories, Inc., YSA Skin Care Center and NSA Exchange Corp., as it continues to serve the Filipino.
In a society that has grown obsessed with beauty and age retardation, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Isabel Lopez-Nazal has achieved iconic stature. She is a recipient of the Parangal ng Bayan sa Bulacan."

The Best Time of the Day....

Hello! Scroll And Spin readers, today as I thinking of what topic I will be posting, I came across with the article coming from Yahoo! Philippines that says "What is the best time to do...." so please read the article below for you to have an idea.

"The Best Time of Day to Clean the House: 4 p.m.You're more likely to whistle while you window wash (and not kick over the bucket) if you do it in the late afternoon. That's when hand-eye coordination is at its peak and mood levels are high, says Michael Smolensky, a professor of environmental physiology at the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston and author of The Body Clock Guide to Better Health (Owl Books, $11, www.amazon.com). If anyone in the house has allergies or asthma, avoid insomnia-hour and morning cleaning sprees (nasal-allergy symptoms are most severe between 6 a.m. and noon, asthma attacks more likely between midnight and 6 a.m.), and finish well before that person walks in the door. "It takes about an hour for allergens and dust to settle after you clean," says Martha White, M.D., director of research at the Institute for Asthma and Allergy, in Wheaton, Maryland.

The Best Time of Day to Take a Nap: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.Doctors used to think afternoon sleepiness was the result of a big lunch. "But we've found that in the early afternoon there's a dip in body temperature, which causes sleepiness," says Smolensky. Just as a similar decrease encourages you to shut down at bedtime, this midday dip can make you crave a siesta. An ideal nap, he says, should last 15 to 20 minutes. More than 30 and you may end up with sleep inertia -- and feel even more groggy when the nap's over. Richard Schwab, M.D., codirector of the University of Pennsylvania Penn Sleep Center, in Philadelphia, says that early afternoon is indeed when your circadian rhythms (the pattern of physical and mental changes we each repeat every 24 hours) are "more likely to want your body to sleep." But Schwab insists that if we weren't all so sleep-deprived, we wouldn't need naps in the first place.

The Best Time of Day to Go to the Doctor: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., or 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.You'll spend less time in the waiting room if you book the first appointment of the morning or the first after lunch, says Patricia Carroll, R.N., author of What Nurses Know and Doctors Don't Have Time to Tell You (Perigee, $15, www.amazon.com) "Doctors start fresh in the morning and catch up when the office is 'closed' for lunch." Many lab tests require fasting, so a morning appointment will help you avoid being hungry half the day. If you're seeing a doctor who performs surgery (orthopedist, gynecologist), ask that your appointment not follow her operating time -- a recipe for serious delays, says Carroll. Pediatricians' and family-practice offices can get mobbed when work and school let out (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.). And if you leave with a prescription to be filled, try to visit the pharmacy before 3 p.m. on weekdays, when it's least busy -- "which also reduces the risk of error," says Carroll."

Hmmm, Let see, by 4pm it is the best time to clean the house at that time I was in front of the computer.

1pm to 2:30pm, at that time I'm watching noontime shows and afterwards take a shower.

then 8am to 9am, at that time I do some household chores.

I think the best time to do your thing is the time when you feel comfortable. It's a matter of time management. That's all folks! have a good day!!!

Do I feel dizzy?

Yesterday, while I'm in the front of my computer, I feel the earth move under my feet, as I look around I see our chandelier is swaying, so here's a related news that I gather courtesy of Philippine Star.

"2 strong quakes jolt Luzon By Helen Flores"

"Two strong earthquakes rocked parts of Luzon yesterday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the tremors, of magnitude 6.5 and 5.3, occurred at 11:04 a.m. and 11:09 a.m., respectively.
Solidum said no tsunami warning was issued.
He said the earthquakes would not generate tsunamis because they were centered too deep underground. The first quake had a magnitude 5.3 and was centered 81 kms. underground and the stronger magnitude 6.5 was about 107 kms. deep.
The US Geological Survey reported the first was magnitude 5.6 and the second was a stronger but deeper magnitude 6.1.
Solidum said seismographs have already recorded some small aftershocks.
The first quake was located some 34 kms. northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. It was felt at Intensity 5 in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Intensity 4 in Manila, Las Piñas, Apalit, Pampanga; Intensity 3 in Batangas City, Tagaytay City, Quezon City and Makati City.
The second quake was centered 51 kms. northwest of Mamburao. It was felt at Intensity 5 in Calapan, Intensity 4 in Puerto Galera and Intensity 3 in Quezon City.
“The quakes are not expected to cause significant damage, however, aftershocks are expected,” Solidum said.
Magnitude refers to the measure of energy of an earthquake specified on the Richter scale.
On the other hand, the intensity of an earthquake is a measure of the severity of shaking and its attendant damage on the surface of the earth.
The Philippines sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates meet, causing seismic and volcanic activity.
Solidum said about 20 earthquakes hit the country everyday but only a few are felt. – With AP"

Impromptu One

Right now, I'm alone on the road
I'm going to the road of nowhere
Before, I was with the one, I thought to be with me through the rest of my journey.
All of a sudden, she's gone.......

Before,
She promise me everything I want for,
She promise me everything.

We look at each other's eye that is full of love
Promise to be together through this journey.

All of a sudden, in a split seconds,
I'm here all alone in the road of nowhere.

While I'm on the middle of the road,
I try to pick the pieces that have been broken.

I hear a voice coming from nowhere,
That it says "That is not the road for you, turn around and I'll show the road that you should take"

As I turn around, I saw this road that is full of hope, brilliant colors sparkling everywhere.
Then I said to myself "This is the road I take before not too long ago"
Then a voice that I hear says "Exactly, that is where you belong before, for now, focus your self on this road because someday you will walk that road again & continue what you started"

As I started to walk,
I feel the inspiration & hope coming in.

E-Fan

For my entry for today, I will talk about on how I become an Eraserheads fan. It started when I’m in high school, we have a presentation in our class so my classmates bring along with them a portable cassette player, they need it for additional production value. It was our lunch break that time when my classmate pop a cassette tape of the first Eraserheads album called “Ultraelectromagneticpop!” “Ligaya” played on the cassette player that is so loud that makes my classmates bang their heads after playing “Ligaya” my classmate says “Pare, pakinggan nyo itong kantang ito” it was the song “Pare ko” then he said “ pakinggan nyo may mura at may word na nagb____t” because at that time no local artist do that except for double meaning rap by a male rapper with a surname of E.

Then the next day, I buy the first Eraserheads album & I enjoy it. I was in college when they release “Circus”, “Cutterpillow”, “Fruitcake”, & “Sticker Happy” including 2 EP’s, fortunately, I have them all. Except for 2 EP’s I buy their album on their first day of release. Here’s a story when they release “Fruitcake” my college classmate & I went to Cubao area to buy their album, when we are in Fiesta Carnival area, we saw this banner that The Eraserheads have an autograph signing prior to the release of “Fruitcake” so we went to the giant Christmas tree where the autograph signing venue is, my college classmate get his “Fruitcake” album signed by The Eraserheads.

If you ask me what is my favorite Eraserheads album, my answer is “Circus” & “Cutterpillow”. And my favorite album cover of the Eraserheads is “Circus” album cover.

Eventhough the members of the Eraserheads gone separate ways, I support them individually. I support Ely Buendia’s Pupil, I support Marcus Adoro’s Markus Highway, I support Buddy Zabala’s Cambio & the Dawn & I support Raimund Marasigan’s Sandwich, Cambio & Pedicab.

Here’s an amazing trivia I have this high school barkada whom after high school we take different school in college, we never have an communication after we both graduated in college & we have some reunion together with some high school barkada, I ask him “Pre, ano paborito mong banda?” then he answer quickly “Pre, Eraserheads at kumpleto ako ng album nila”. Another trivia, I have a classmate in high school who is “tahimik” & don’t talk too much likes the song “Shirley”. I may conclude if the 70’s have Juan Dela Cruz band (which is another rock icon) then the 90’s have The Eraserheads.

Here's a live video of The Eraserheads circa 1997 singing “Pare ko”

Radio Broadcasting Technique

Hello! Readers of Scroll And Spin for today’s entry I’m going to share with you a few techniques in radio broadcasting.

If you are in a Public Affairs type of radio program you must use your natural voice & must be relax & talk to your listeners as a friend & remember be authoritative.

If you are in an Entertainment type of radio program use voice with a smile, with coolness. Voice projection is important in this type of radio program & also be authoritative.

And remember, once you speak on air, the words that came out of your mouth must be loud and clear to the listeners to understand and the manner of your presentation must be creative.

And most of all create your own style in radio broadcasting because in my opinion to be able to stand out in this field you must be known by your individuality & distinct style to cut above the rest.

Heartburn

For today’s entry we will featured Sharon Gillson article about heartburn, so here it goes my dear readers…..

"You've just enjoyed a big meal and are relaxing in front of the TV when it happens. A burning sensation begins to build in the upper abdomen, behind the breastbone, and makes your chest feel like it's on fire. The burning and pain may travel from your diaphragm all the way to your throat, and may be accompanied with a sour taste and the sensation of food re-entering your mouth.
You're suffering from severe heartburn.
Despite the name, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. It's a digestive problem that occurs when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus, causing irritation. Most people suffer from heartburn occasionally, usually after a meal. How do you know when your condition is considered chronic?
If you have heartburn once a month, it's considered mild. If you have heartburn once a week, it's moderate. It's when your heartburn occurs daily that it's considered to be severe.
About 20% of all adults will have heartburn at least once a month. They can manage these uncomfortable episodes with a change in diet, over-the-counter antacids and weight lose. Even those who suffer from moderate heartburn can often find relief with these remedies. But for five to fifteen percent of adults, their heartburn is severe. For them, the above-mentioned remedies give only partial or temporary relief.
What Causes Heartburn?
Heartburn is caused when stomach acid refluxes--backs up--into the esophagus. This can occur for a number of reasons:
· When the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the valve that keeps stomach acid in the stomach, is weakened or relaxed and doesn't do its job properly. This is the most common symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
· Certain foods, such as chocolate, fried and fatty foods, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, sugars, can weaken or relax the LES.
· Eating large meals or shortly before bedtime.
· A hiatal hernia.
· Pressure on the stomach, including frequent bending over, tight clothes, lifting, obesity.
· Certain medications.
· Smoking.
· Stress can increase acid production and slow down the emptying of the stomach.
Is Heartburn Serious?
People who suffer from mild heartburn may consider it more of a nuisance than a condition that can cause any serious complications. But for those who suffer from chronic heartburn, episodes occurring from several times a week to several times a day, if it's left untreated can lead to severe complications.
For people who suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), heartburn can be chronic, and severe. This can cause scarring of the esophagus, which narrows the esophagus and makes it difficult to swallow. It can also lead to Barrett's esophagus, a condition where cells similar to those of the stomach lining develop in the lower esophagus. This severe damage to the esophagus increases your risk of developing cancer of the esophagus
Managing Your Heartburn
You can find relief from your heartburn with a few self-care remedies. This involves making a few lifestyle and diet changes.
Here are a few suggestions:
· Eat frequent smaller meals instead of three larger ones. This will help prevent excessive production of stomach acid.
· Eat slowly. One way to help you slow down while eating is to put your fork or spoon down between bites.
· Don't go to bed with a full stomach.Stay up at least three hours after eating your last meal or large snack before going to bed. This gives acid levels a chance to decrease before your body is in a position where heartburn is more likely to occur.
· Raise the head of your bed several inches. With your head elevated, it will help prevent reflux during the night.
· Avoid your heartburn triggers.Examples of foods and beverages that can trigger heartburn are coffee (including decaf), alcohol, fatty foods, caffeine-containing beverages and foods, onions, peppermint, chocolate, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes.
· Stop smoking.Nicotine can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that controls the opening between the esophagus and stomach and prevents the acid-containing contents of the stomach from entering the esophagus.
· Wear looser-fitting clothes.Tight clothing squeezes the midsection and tends to push stomach contents upward.
· Lose weight. If you are overweight, losing weight can help relieve your symptoms.
· Chew gum.Chewing gum can provide short-term heartburn relief by stimulating the production of saliva, which dilutes and flushes out stomach acid.
· Drink warm liquids.Drinking a glass of lukewarm water or herbal tea after a meal can dilute and flush out stomach acid."

Allergy

For today’s entry, I will be talking about Allergies. You know what when I’m in a gathering, (of course there’s a lot of eating) I try to find what food do they serve, if I found the “food” that cause me allergies I try to excuse myself not to get that food and you will hear the following conversation:

Other visitor: why do you not pick shrimp? I looks delicious right?

Me: yeah! It’s tempting to eat shrimp but I will not eat shrimp cause I have an allergy after I eat shrimp.

Other visitor: what allergy?

Me: well, my stomach will tumble? (And I smile)

Other visitor: there’s no such thing as allergies, it’s all in the mind

That’s our conversation goes for the benefit of that “other visitor” let us see what is allergy?

According to Wikipedia:

“Allergy is a disorder of the immune system often also referred to as atopy. Allergic reactions occur to environmental substances known as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable and rapid. Strictly, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity and is called type I (or immediate) hypersensitivity. It is characterized by excessive activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophils by a type of antibody known as IgE, resulting in an extreme inflammatory response. Common allergic reactions include eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma, food allergies, and reactions to the venom of stinging insects such as wasps and bees.[1]

Mild allergies like hay fever are highly prevalent in the human population and cause symptoms such as allergic conjunctivitis, itchiness, and runny nose. Allergies can play a major role in conditions such as asthma. In some people, severe allergies to environmental or dietary allergens or to medication may result in life-threatening anaphylactic reactions and potentially death.

A variety of tests now exist to diagnose allergic conditions; these include testing the skin for responses to known allergens or analyzing the blood for the presence and levels of allergen-specific IgE. Treatments for allergies include allergen avoidance, use of anti-histamines, steroids or other oral medications, immunotherapy to desensitize the response to allergen, and targeted therapy

Signs and symptoms

Many allergens, such as dust or pollen, are airborne particles. In these cases, symptoms arise in areas in contact with air, such as eyes, nose and lungs. For instance, allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, causes irritation of the nose, sneezing, and itching and redness of the eyes.[6] Inhaled allergens can also lead to asthmatic symptoms, caused by narrowing of the airways (bronchoconstriction) and increased production of mucus in the lungs, shortness of breath (dyspnea), coughing and wheezing.[7]

Aside from these ambient allergens, allergic reactions can result from foods, insect stings, and reactions to medications like aspirin and antibiotics such as penicillin. Symptoms of food allergy include abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, diarrhoea, itchy skin, and swelling of the skin during hives. Food allergies rarely cause respiratory (asthmatic) reactions, or rhinitis.[8] Insect stings, antibiotics, and certain medicines produce a systemic allergic response that is also called anaphylaxis; multiple organ systems can be affected, including the digestive system, the respiratory system, and the circulatory system.[9][10][11] Depending of the rate of severity, it can cause cutaneous reactions, bronchoconstriction, edema, hypotension, coma, and even death. This type of reaction can be triggered suddenly, or the onset can be delayed. The severity of this type of allergic response often requires injections of epinephrine, sometimes through a device known as the Epi-Pen auto-injector. The nature of anaphylaxis is such that the reaction can seem to be subsiding, but may recur throughout a prolonged period of time. [11]

Substances that come into contact with the skin, such as latex, are also common causes of allergic reactions, known as contact dermatitis or eczema.[12] Skin allergies frequently cause rashes, or swelling and inflammation within the skin, in what is known as a "wheal and flare" reaction characteristic of hives and angioedema.[13]

So there you go it’s all about allergies, so next time don’t ask me why I don’t eat shrimp.

Eraserheads cut short

"The Eraserheads Reunion Concert was cut short Saturday night when lead singer Ely Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center after collapsing backstage during a 20-minute intermission of the planned 30-song concert.

The concert’s sudden end was announced by Buendia’s sister Lally who went onstage with Ely’s band mates Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro and concert organizers stating that the band’s lead vocalist and songwriter was in poor health. The band members apologized to the audience for cutting short their performance.

MTV Philippines President Francis Lumen asked the crowd for a minute of silence to pray for Buendia’s health".

Raimund Marasigan’s Post Eraserheads Reunion Message at Sandwich Yahoogroups

"after the first set i was so hyped. i went looking for buddy to check
up on him cos his bass effects was malfunctioning.

i found him coming out of ely's tent and said ely was rushed to the
hospital. we were all stunned and after a quick production meeting and
meeting with his family we had to announce that the concert had to be
cut short.

we prepared 3 sets. the first was just a warm up. the remaining two
was going to be the fun part.

there was more videos and light shows and pyro in store for everyone.

after getting fans family and friends safely out of the venue maps and
i headed over to saguijo bar to meet sandwich pedicab cambio and some
friends to hang. (See Bonus Video J)

after a few beers buddy arrives so we decided to play the second set
on borrowed equipment. thanx to mark maya for the stix. we had a
little help from ebe, kris, vin, aia and tani. by the time we were
playing el bimbo marcus shows up so he got to play also.

i guess we just did not want to go home to our posh hotel rooms all
down and defeated. i'm thankful we have great friends to support us,
cheer us up when we're sad, pick us up when we're down.

here's my new motto

drum now ask questions later

Is there Eraserheads Reunion Part 2? So here’s Mr. Raimund Marasigan’s Message Posted on Sandwich Yahoogroups.

"thank you thank you

dear everybody

before anything. i just spoke to day cabuhat. and she informed me that
ely's condition is now stable. and they're very thankful for all your
concern.

thank you very much for coming t the show. we really felt the cheering
and the singing and the love you all gave.

thank you for understanding that the show had to be cut short.

ely was in no condition (emotionally, physically) to play but he did.
and he gave it his all which is more than we could ask from him. given
the circumstances he was in.

we all wish him well. we are all confident that he will recover soon.

i promise to give you another eraserheads show as soon as possible.

again thank you very much
