Here’s a little trivia:

· At the ending of the song "Game! Tama Na!", the outro riff from the Beatles' "Come Together" can be heard being played alongside the main guitar.

· The promotional CD versions of "Milk and Money", "Hard to Believe" and "Andalusian Dog" (all from the album Sticker Happy) were mixed at Electric Lady Studios, New York City in September 1997.[38] Electric Lady Studios was built by the rock legend Jimi Hendrix. The tracks were recorded earlier in Manila, however.[38]

· The jellyfish image on the Cutterpillow album was contributed by rapper Francis M. himself, who downloaded it from an FTP site. He also contributed a 22-bar rap verse in the song Super Proxy.[33]

· The names "haro" and "levan" mentioned in the "Balikbayan Box" lyrics refer to the brothers Haro De Guzman and Levan "Schizo" De Guzman, members and co-founders of the Happy Box production outfit, the group that promoted the Eraserheads' U.S. tour in 1998.[14] Schizo owns and maintains the Eraserheads Database website.[39][40][41]

· The cover for the 'Circus' album was created by visual artist Mark Justiniani. The original artwork is now in a private collection

I hope you enjoy my entry for today as we play some of their songs.

You may also contact me directly at…..

That phrase should not place in one’s site if you’re not meant to do it. My friend is fuming mad at that phrase that he read at some sites citing if you want to contact that person you must reach him thru his e-mail address, days have pass, months have pass but he got no response to his inquiry. And I said to my friend maybe the reason why on why he did not make a response to your inquiry is because he’s busy with any other thing and don’t have time or maybe he’s just choosy of who to give a response or your just a nobody.

Biking

One of the things that I do to relax aside from listening to music is biking. I go biking when I have a time in the morning. Biking is good for health and it also helps the environment because it never emits smoke that causes air pollution. And speaking of biking, there is a group that their advocacy is for clean air, so please do check their multiply account http://tourofthefireflies.multiply.com/ .Before I end my entry about biking. Here's the music of Queen. Enjoy!

City Of Malolos, Bulacan

For today’s entry, Scroll And Spin will be featuring the City Of Malolos

"No other towns in the Philippines can be linked to the great patriots and heroes in the country's history more than Malolos—capital of the short-lived Philippine Republic. Such name as General Emilio Aguinaldo, Pedro A. Paterno, Dr. Jose P. Rizal and the del Pilars- Marcelo, Pio, and Gregorio, Apolinario Mabini, Antonio Luna, Felipe Calderon, and a host of others are forever engraved in the annals of Philippine History.

The name of Malolos was presumably derived from the Tagalog word "Paluslos", meaning " downwards". The name resulted from a misunderstanding among the first Spanish missionaries who reached the place. Searching for inhabited places along the Calumpit River, these priests came upon some natives of a riverside barrio (now Kanalate). They asked for the name of the place. The natives, not knowing the Spanish tongue, answered that the flow of the river in that part was downstream -"paluslos"-, which the Spaniards pronounced "Malolos". Corruption of the word through the years led to present "Malolos".

The town originated from a small settlement started by the Spanish missionaries. Later, after clearing forests and virgin lands, the settlement grew, and the population increased. After the construction of a big church, the place was made into a town. From the very beginning, Tagalog made up the majority of the Malolos populace. They were led by prominent families, among them the Gatsalians (Gatchalian), and the Manahans.

To cite all the historical events that transpired in Malolos, one could very well fill a good-sized book. The major events especially those that revolved around the first Republic, cannot be left unmentioned.

The wealth of Malolos lies not only in its more than four thousand hectares of fertile rice lands and more than two thousand hectares of fishponds, but in the character of its people as well. Its people have long been known for their diligence and ingenuity. In early days, farming and fishing took up most of the poultry, farming, pigeon rising, carpentry and woodwork, and other profitable cottage industries and handicrafts. A major factor in Malolos growth and development was the opening of the Manila-Dagupan railways in 1892. With the advent of the railroad came new ideas from Manila and other places. Another factor is Malolos proximity to industrial and business centers. Only 42 kilometers off from Manila, the town and its people are inevitable subjected to an influx of metropolitan thoughts.

In work methods and tools, it is estranged to find Malolos folk using a combination of the old and the new Ramshackle hops tremble to the whirl of modern electric-powered machines. Fishermen go out to the sea in the same dugouts their grandfathers used. Some of them have outboard motors. And handicraftsmen, woodworkers and weavers still follow the ageless techniques of their forefathers."

Malolos City is politically subdivided into the following 51 barangays

1. Anilao
2. Atlag

National Heroes Day

Hello! Scroll And Spin readers, hope your doing fine and today we will talk about heroes or hero since here in the Philippines celebrates National Heroes Day so I will ask you a question, Who is your hero? But first let us define what heroes or hero meant.

According to Webster Dictionary hero is….

"Admire for courage and great deeds, chief male character in drama or fiction, heroine is a female hero"

But for me the real definition of a Hero is giving oneself & never asks in return.

Here’s Wallflowers with the song “Heroes”

Video Courtesy of geoffreydavila

Lyrics of Heroes Version of the Wallflowers

Words and Music by David Bowie and Brian Eno

I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever.

We can be Heroes, just for one day.

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

I, I remember standing, by the wall
And the guns, shot above our heads
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever

Then we could be Heroes, just for one day

We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day

Before I end my entry for today, here’s a statement from Mr. Raimund Marasigan concerning the Eraserheads Reunion Concert on August 30, this statement is taken from cambiolist

Arnel Pineda

Filipinos are now being recognized all over the world, one of them is Mr. Arnel Pineda, a new vocalist of the band Journey, so for the readers of Scroll and Spin here are the excerpts of the interview of Mr. Arnel Pineda by Mr. Ricky Lo of Philippines Star thru his column Funfare, publish last Tuesday August 19, 2008.

Hello, Arnel. How have you been doing?

“Okay naman po.”

I understand that Journey is doing another concert tomorrow (the other day, Sunday, Aug. 17). Pang-ilang concert n’yo na ‘yan?

“Marami-rami na rin. I had my first concert with Journey early this year. Since then, we’ve been touring.”

But even if you were busy on the road, you were able to finish Revelation, your first album with Journey.

“We really found time for the album. It was Neal and Jonathan who wrote all the 11 new tracks on the album.”

In a magazine interview, Schon said that “we feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. The new stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel.”

“It’s nice to hear that. I’m glad that they are happy with my work, that I’m living up to their expectations. I did the vocals for the album.”

Cain was also quoted as saying, “Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey. His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.” Wow, talagang bilib na bilib sila sa’yo, ha!

“That’s why I really did my best. I didn’t want to let them down and the Journey fans who have been waiting for the album.”

How’s your bonding with the four other members so far?

“Okay naman po. No problem. They take good care of me and they really make me feel that I’m one of them. We are like a family.”

How is the reaction of the audience especially to you in the Journey concerts?

“As far as I can see, it’s okay. The audiences are very enthusiastic. I can see that they are happy to see a new member blending very well with the group.”

Some...but only very few, I hope...Journey fans expressed disapproval of your choice as the group’s new vocalist, especially so since you are an Asian.

“Wala ‘yon. I don’t think criticisms or reactions like that will ever go away, although I haven’t heard or seen anybody express that kind of reaction during our concerts. I understand where those critics are coming from. That’s what they think, that’s what they believe in, and I can’t really do anything about. I just focus on trying to please and entertain those who have faith in my talent. I just ignore those who say negative comments against me. Whether I’m doing right or wrong, they would still say the same things against me.”

Does it challenge you to maybe prove them wrong and eventually win their patronage?

“Not really to prove them wrong. That’s hard, because there are fans who insist on what they want you to do. What I consider a challenge is to prove that I am worthy as Journey’s new vocalist.”

Where are you based? Are you with your wife and children?

“I’m based in San Francisco, although I don’t usually stay long in one place because we are always moving, we are always on the road. So most of the time, we stay in hotels. No, my family is not with me yet. They are in the Philippines.”

Don’t you sleep in any of the Journey guys’ house?

“No, I don’t. Nakakahiya naman po. They have their own families.”

When is Journey coming to the Philippines to promote the album?

“Next year, hopefully. Kumusta na lang sa inyong lahat dyan.”

For Your Good Posture

For today’s entry, I will write about proper body posture cause last Sunday, I suffer from backache for not having a proper body posture so here’s some tips courtesy of my.clevelandclinic.org

What is good posture?

Posture is the position in which you hold your body upright against gravity while standing, sitting or lying down. Good posture involves training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement or weight-bearing activities. Proper posture:

  • Keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles are being used properly.
  • Helps decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that could result in arthritis.
  • Decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together.
  • Prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions.
  • Prevents fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy.
  • Prevents strain or overuse problems.
  • Prevents backache and muscular pain.
  • Contributes to a good appearance.

Proper posture requirements

Correct sitting position

  1. Sit up with your back straight and your shoulders back. Your buttocks should touch the back of your chair.
  2. All three normal back curves should be present while sitting. A small, rolled-up towel or a lumbar roll can be used to help you maintain the normal curves in your back.
    • Here's how to find a good sitting position when you're not using a back support or lumbar roll:
      • Sit at the end of your chair and slouch completely.
      • Draw yourself up and accentuate the curve of your back as far as possible. Hold for a few seconds.
      • Release the position slightly (about 10 degrees). This is a good sitting posture.
  3. Distribute your body weight evenly on both hips.
  4. Bend your knees at a right angle. Keep your knees even with or slightly higher than your hips. (use a foot rest or stool if necessary). Your legs should not be crossed.
  5. Keep your feet flat on the floor.
  6. Try to avoid sitting in the same position for more than 30 minutes.
  7. At work, adjust your chair height and work station so you can sit up close to your work and tilt it up at you. Rest your elbows and arms on your chair or desk, keeping your shoulders relaxed.
  8. When sitting in a chair that rolls and pivots, don't twist at the waist while sitting. Instead, turn your whole body.
  9. When standing up from the sitting position, move to the front of the seat of your chair. Stand up by straightening your legs. Avoid bending forward at your waist. Immediately stretch your back by doing 10 standing backbends.
Correct driving position
  • Use a back support (lumbar roll) at the curve of your back. Your knees should be at the same level or higher than your hips.
  • Move the seat close to the steering wheel to support the curve of your back. The seat should be close enough to allow your knees to bend and your feet to reach the pedals.
Correct lifting position

  • If you must lift objects, do not try to lift objects that are awkward or are heavier than 30 pounds.
  • Before you lift a heavy object, make sure you have firm footing.
  • To pick up an object that is lower than the level of your waist, keep your back straight and bend at your knees and hips. Do not bend forward at the waist with your knees straight.
  • Stand with a wide stance close to the object you are trying to pick up and keep your feet firm on the ground. Tighten your stomach muscles and lift the object using your leg muscles. Straighten your knees in a steady motion. Don't jerk the object up to your body.
  • Stand completely upright without twisting. Always move your feet forward when lifting an object.
  • If you are lifting an object from a table, slide it to the edge to the table so that you can hold it close to your body. Bend your knees so that you are close to the object. Use your legs to lift the object and come to a standing position.
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects above waist level.
  • Hold packages close to your body with your arms bent. Keep your stomach muscles tight. Take small steps and go slowly.
  • To lower the object, place your feet as you did to lift, tighten stomach muscles and bend your hips and knees.

What is the best position for sleeping and lying down?

No matter what position you lie in, the pillow should be under your head, but not your shoulders, and should be a thickness that allows your head to be in a normal position.

  • Try to sleep in a position which helps you maintain the curve in your back (such as on your back with a pillow under your knees or a lumbar roll under your lower back; or on your side with your knees slightly bent). Do not sleep on your side with your knees drawn up to your chest. You may want to avoid sleeping on your stomach, especially on a saggy mattress, since this can cause back strain and can be uncomfortable for your neck.
  • Select a firm mattress and box spring set that does not sag. If necessary, place a board under your mattress. You can also place the mattress on the floor temporarily if necessary. If you've always slept on a soft surface, it may be more painful to change to a hard surface. Try to do what's most comfortable for you.
  • Try using a back support (lumbar support) at night to make you more comfortable. A rolled sheet or towel tied around your waist may be helpful.
  • When standing up from the lying position, turn on your side, draw up both knees and swing your legs on the side of the bed. Sit up by pushing yourself up with your hands. Avoid bending forward at your waist.

The above advice will benefit a majority of people with back pain. If any of the above guidelines causes an increase of pain or spreading of pain to the legs, do not continue the activity and seek the advice of a physician or physical therapist.

Ninoy Aquino Day

Today is August 21, here in the Philippines, we are commemorating the 25th Death Anniversary of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

Benigno Servillano Aquino Aquino, Jr.[2][3] (November 27, 1932August 21, 1983), popularly known as Ninoy Aquino or Benigno S. Aquino, Jr., was a former Philippine senator, governor and mayor and a leading oppositionist to the autocratic rule of Ferdinand Marcos. He was assassinated at the Manila International Airport (now named the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor) upon returning home from exile in the United States. His death catapulted his widow, Corazon Aquino, to the limelight and subsequently to the presidency, replacing the 20-year-old Marcos regime.

Music That I Listen During The 90's Part 2

Last Friday, we featured some of the bands that I listened to during the 90’s and today, I will featured some of the bands that I listened to during the 90’s but this time, I will feature Filipino bands, so let’s start with the Eraserheads…

Rivermaya…

Wolfgang…

Razorback…

Siakol…

Before we end our entry for today, let me share with you an article by Mr. Francis J. Kong entitled “Be Courageous” from his column BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) published thru the Philippine Star, Saturday, August 16, 2008 and here it goes:

At the zoo, a man watched as an attendant entered a wildcat cage through a door on the opposite side. He had nothing in his hands but a broom. Carefully closing the door, he proceeded to sweep the floor of the cage. The onlooker observed that the worker had no weapon to ward off an attack by the beast. In fact, when he got to the corner of the cage where the wildcat was lying, he poked the animal with the broom. The wildcat hissed at him and then lay down in another corner of the enclosure.

He remarked to the attendant, “You certainly are a brave man.”

“No I ain’t brave,” he replied as he continued to sweep.

“Well, then, that cat must be tame.”

“No,” came the reply, “he ain’t tame.”

“If you aren’t brave and the wildcat isn’t tame, then I can’t understand why he doesn’t attack you.”

The man chuckled, then replied with an air of confidence, “Mister, he’s old — and he ain’t got no teeth.”

Do not be intimidated by the long term senior workers in the office.

They are mature in terms of age. They look fierce. Maybe they are fierce but they carry no teeth. Especially those who are egoistic and proud.

Respect them but do not be intimidated by them.

Many proud and arrogant old-term seniors do not only have a hardening of the arteries, they also have a hardening of the argument. And this is not a good thing. They have the work experience. They know the office politics. The worst thing for seniors to do is to be intimidated by the young entrants to the market place. Seniors should leverage their experience with the energy, speed, stamina and the new ideas new entrants have. Mentor the young ones and pass on their skill and experience to the new generation.

New entrants on the other hand should respect the seniors. Ask questions. Learn from them. Seek them as mentors and jumpstart their career success. This is called leveraging.

Some old term seniors are still banking on their ego and they go on constant power trips to assure themselves that they still matter, that they are still important. But when they are no longer growing, when they have lost their passion for their work and when they have gone idle then they have lost their teeth.

On the contrary there’s these young people who come in too strong. While it is good that they have new ideas and they have all these new techie skills they think like they are now on a mission to change the entire organization. They look at the old timers with contempt and they entertain an air of superiority thinking that these seniors are on their way out and now the world is ours! This is dumb! You cannot change anything if you do not first understand what it is all about.

Here is the balance.

Senior people should have the courage to learn from the young. While it is true that they may lack in new and emerging skills they still carry with them the precious work experience and the wisdom gathered through the years in making the business run. Mentor the young. And in doing so you learn from them too.

Young and new entrants in the market place should learn from their seniors. Treat them with respect. Have the courage to ask questions. Seek them for advice, learn the ropes and realize that what takes those years to accumulate in terms of experience and wisdom you can now learn if you could develop a healthy and respectable relationship with them.

Here is the key. Always consider others better than yourselves and in doing so you develop the courage to rise up to your success the right way.

A senior executive talking to a young new executive said: “Young man, the secret of my success is that at an early age I discovered I was not God.”

You cannot succeed by yourself. It’s hard to find a rich recluse.
